PART 7
Firespark
had just raised his hand to knock when suddenly, a voice sounded from above.
“Who are you?” boomed the
voice.
“Um....” Firespark looked nervous. “I’m Firespark, and this is Lilly.”
“State your business!” the voice
said in a gentler tone.
“We, um, well, it’s kind of hard to
explain. You see, we were traveling to
this island when we saw the castle, and thought that maybe we should stop in
and see if we could find someone to help me find my parents.”
“Back up,” advised the voice. “You have been accepted into the castle. The gates will open shortly.” A creaking, groaning noise verified the truth
of its words. The doors slowly opened
inward to reveal a courtyard and a full-grown blue dragon. It was about two times as large as
Firespark. The dragon’s wings were grayish-blue,
and its scales sparkled a majestic ice color.
Two ivory pointed teeth stuck out over its bottom lip. It stared at them with cold blue eyes. “Come in.”
They did.
“My name is Glacier. I’m the gatekeeper. Welcome to Dragonhold Castle,” he said,
gesturing with his claw. “I know someone
who would very much like to see you.
Come, follow me.” He began
walking across the courtyard. Firespark
and Lilly followed him.
Lilly could not keep her eyes off of
the sheer size of the castle. It’s
amazing that something so big could even be built! she thought. Imagine working on this castle—it must
have taken years!
Firespark, on the other hand, stared
at the dragon in front of them.
Glacier’s tail had a white spike protruding from its tip. I can't wait to see more dragons! he
thought. Dragons like me! Suddenly he heard whispering. He looked around. There were other dragons in the courtyard!
Big dragons, the size of Glacier,
were everywhere. A red dragon who looked
like Firespark gazed at them. A group of
female brown dragons with rocky scales gossiped and pointed at Lilly and
Firespark. One small green dragon who
had climbed a massive tree was being scolded by his mother. Firespark squinted. He could hardly see the young dragon in the
tree. Its scales resembled leaves, making
it well camouflaged.
Glacier stopped suddenly. Firespark, who wasn’t paying attention,
bumped into him. Glacier glared at
Firespark. “Sorry,” he apologized. “I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
“Obviously,” sniffed Glacier. Lilly landed on Firespark’s shoulder, eager
to see what would happen next. She looked
around.
They had stopped in front of another
large gate made of the strange iron.
This gate was set in what Lilly assumed to be the rest of the castle—the
living quarters for those of the court.
She still marveled at the sheer size of the castle. Glacier knocked on the gate. “Glacier reporting. I have a special visitor,” he stated.
“Watch out,” said a voice from
within. The gate creaked open. “Come in.”
Glacier walked into the castle and beckoned for Firespark and Lilly to
follow.
The first thing that Lilly noticed
was the tapestries. They hung everywhere
on the walls. She flew over to one and
hovered beside it, inspecting it. Wow,
she thought. This is beautiful! The work is fantastic! This must be a battle scene.
The tapestry portrayed a battle
between two armies of creatures. One
army definitely looked evil. Vampires,
gorgons, demons, some wizards, and dark dragons were a few of the
monsters. The other army was comprised
of mainly humans and dragons, but many other creatures were depicted. This must be the first battle to defeat
the Evil One, thought Lilly.
“Lilly!” Firespark
whisper-shouted. Lilly looked
around. Glacier was far ahead. She caught up to them. “That was a really cool tapestry,” she
whispered. “I’d like to look at all of
them.”
“Me too,” replied Firespark. “Where do you think we’re going?”
“I don’t know,” said Lilly. Glacier stopped again, this time in front of
two doors which looked like they were made of wood, except they sparkled just
like the gates. Two dragon guards in
armor stood on either side of the doors.
One was green, the other was red.
Their armor was inscribed with the same coat of arms as the flags
hanging outside. Glacier conversed in a
low voice with the green dragon, and pointed at Lilly and Firespark
occasionally. To occupy themselves, they
looked around.
Lilly poked Firespark. “Look up!” she exclaimed. A massive chandelier hung from the
ceiling. Many giant candles set in it
provided light for the room, though there were windows. “Wonder how they light them?” mused
Firespark.
“There’s plenty of dragons here,
silly,” Lilly reminded him. “I bet a
fire dragon like you just flies up there and lights them by blowing fire!” They laughed.
“Come,” said Glacier, startling
them. The door was open. He lumbered into the room. Firespark and Lilly followed him.
They entered a throne room. The room was much bigger than any they had
seen. Rich colors were everywhere. Tapestries hung on the wall. Two lush rugs lay on the dais, in place of
where the thrones would be. Lilly
supposed that dragons did not use chairs.
The coat of arms they had seen all throughout the castle was printed on
a large cloth which hung behind the two rugs.
Two dragons sat on the rugs. That must be the king and queen,
thought Lilly. Both dragons looked very
regal. The one on the right was the
king—Lilly could tell because there was a kingly crown inscribed on the wall
behind him. The crown behind the queen
was more delicate.
The king and queen were both red
dragons just like Firespark. In fact,
they looked almost exactly like him. Well,
except for the queen, Lilly thought.
She looks way more.....feminine.
And she’s more red than the king.
They both had jewels set in their scales, and one large one set in their
foreheads.
Firespark and Lilly followed Glacier
to the dais. When they arrived, Glacier
bowed. “Your Highnesses, Lady Regent.”
“EH?” loudly asked a creaky
voice. A fairy peeped out from behind
the king. She poked the king with a
cane. “Move, you great lump,” she
squeaked. The king moved hurriedly. The fairy came in view.
She looked old—right down to
wrinkles on her face. Lilly knew
she had to be old, because fairies kept their ageless countenance for quite a
while. The fairy’s clothes were made of
flower petals. Her hair was
silvery-grey.
She flew up to Firespark and poked
him with her cane. “Yep,” she said. “That’s him.”
“Firespark?” asked the queen
hesitantly. “Is that really you?”
“Last time we saw you, you were a
baby!” laughed the king. “Welcome home,
son!”
Firespark gawked.
The old fairy poked him again. “Well?
Doncha have something to say, sonny?”
“Uh....” Firespark stood there. “Are you really my parents? Because, I don’t feel, like, royal, or
anything.”
The king stepped down from his rug
throne and walked toward Firespark. “If
there was ever a doubt in your mind, just look at your scales,” he said with a
smile.

I am getting very good at climaxes, doncha think? xD
I know I included a sentence from Part 6 but whatever. It adds to the mystique.
In case you're wondering (I never explain this part), the sparkley metal that the gates are made of is a special metal which cannot be melted with dragon fire.
And, also, the whole story about the history of Fantasia, the Evil One, etc, is included in my book (parts of which I shall be posting soon). I think I may just do a "history book special" and go ahead and tell you the history of Fantasia later.
FOLLOW ME AND I WILL MAKE YOU READERS OF AWESOME BOOKS!!!!!
