“Oh!”  Firespark held out his hand.  “I’m Firespark, and this is Lilly.”  The man shook hands with each of them.  “We’re traveling through and we’d like to know where exactly we are.  We didn’t bring a map, you see,” he said apologetically.
“Alright, well, you’re in a forest right along the coast of Fantasia.  The......north-east coast if I remember correctly.”
“Thanks,” said Lilly.  “I guess we’ll just be on our way now.”
“Oh, wait,” Eltobe said.  “Would you like some tea and rolls?  I just made some.”
Lilly looked at Firespark.  He nodded.  “Sure!  That would be great,” she said.
“Good, then come inside.”  Eltobe opened the door wider and stepped back in.  Firespark lumbered into the house and Lilly flew behind him.
There was only one room in the cylindrical house.  A bed rested along the left side, and a table sat in the middle.  There was a fireplace built into the side opposite the bed.  Eltobe lifted a kettle off of a rod over a small fire.  “Please, sit down.”
Firespark looked at the one chair beside the table.  “Oh!”  Eltobe snapped his fingers.  “I’m sorry.”  He pointed at two places by the table.  Two chairs appeared.  Lilly stared at Firespark.  They were exactly the right sizes for each of them.
Eltobe clanked something in a cabinet, bringing them out of their stupors.  “Almost ready,” he said.  A few cups floated over to the table.  Lilly flew over to her chair and sat down.  “I think,” she whispered, “that Eltobe is a wizard.”
Firespark sat in his chair.  “Me too.”  A platter jumped over to rest on the table without dumping any of its contents, delicious looking sugar covered rolls.  Eltobe walked over to the table with the kettle.  “This is my specialty—rednut rordy tea.  Very good.”  He poured some in each cup, took the remaining seat, and then passed around the sugar bowl and cream pitcher.
Firespark and Lilly each drank their tea and talked to Eltobe.  They told him where they were going, and why.  He seemed very interested in their story.  When he heard that Firespark had been left in the fairy forest, he snapped his fingers.
“Aha!  I thought so.  I know your parents, Firespark.  And I know why you don’t need a map to get there.”
“What?  You do?  Tell me!”  Firespark leaned forward in his seat.
“Well, I can't tell you who or where your parents are, because that would ruin the surprise, wouldn’t it?”  Eltobe grinned.  “But anyway.  You can find where your parents are because there’s this magnet feeling inside of you, correct?”
Firespark’s eyes grew wide.  “How did you know?”
Eltobe laughed.  “I’m a wizard, dear.  I know a lot.  You’ll get there soon.  You just have to fly—“  He stopped.  “I can't tell you.  But just follow your feet, and you’ll get there really quickly.”  The wizard winked.
“Okay.  Thank you for telling us.  I’m so anxious to find my parents,” Firespark said.
“Well, when you get there, why don’t you have something to show them?”  Eltobe stood up.  “How old are you?”
            “Thirteen,” replied Firespark.
“Good,” said Eltobe.  “You’re ready to learn how to breathe fire.”
*****************
Eltobe led them outside the house and through the woods until they came to a clearing with a small creek running through it.  “That,” he said with a smile, “is in case of an accident.
“Now!”  He clapped his hands.  “Have you ever tried to breathe fire?”
“No,” Firespark replied.  “When I sneeze, sometimes it comes out, but I can't control it.”
“Okay, that’s a start.”  Eltobe looked at Firespark.  Lilly sat on a tree branch above Eltobe’s head, watching.  Eltobe spun Firespark around so that he faced the creek.  “Try to imagine a volcano,” Eltobe said.  “Think about being in the volcano.  There’s fire all around you.  It’s hot, but comfortably so.  Bubbles of lava constantly pop.  Some of the lava sprays you, but it doesn't hurt.  Now, imagine that the volcano is in your belly.”
Lilly looked at Firespark.  His fists were clenched and his eyes were squinched shut.  He appeared to be concentrating very hard.
Eltobe continued talking.  “It’s hot!  It doesn't feel nice.  It burns you.  Quick, spit it out!”
A stream of fire whooshed into the creek.  It sizzled and popped as it hit the water, and a patch of grass was set on fire.  Eltobe glared at the creek, and some water splashed up onto the bank.  The small fire was put out.
“Good job!” Eltobe exclaimed.  He pounded Firespark, who looked slightly frightened, on the back.  “Magnificent for your first try.  Let’s do it again.”
Lilly flew over Firespark and around his head.  “That was awesome!!  I want to see it again!  It was like, boom, and fire was actually coming out of your mouth and it was so hot I could feel it from here!  That was amazing!”
Firespark stared at the spot where his fire had scorched the ground.  Then he looked at Lilly and grinned.  “All right!!  That was so cool!!!  Can I do it again?”
“Yes,” Eltobe answered.  “Just do the same thing.  Imagine the volcano again.”
A second fire stream shot out of Firespark’s mouth and into the creek.  Lilly cheered.  Firespark flew into the air and did a flip.  Eltobe grinned.
They repeated the exercise over and over until Firespark could control where he directed the fire and keep it going for 15 seconds.  “As you get older and more experienced, you’ll be able to breathe fire for up to a minute and a half,” said Eltobe.  “It just takes practice.”
After a small break with refreshments, Lilly and Firespark left Eltobe.  The wizard waved them off from his door.  “If you’re ever in the area, come visit me!” he yelled.  “Don’t ever use your fire unless you need to, don’t eat poisonous mushrooms, and have a good journey!”
*****************
Firespark and Lilly flew until they reached the sea.  Neither of them had ever seen it.  When they came to the beach, they both touched down on the sand and gazed at it.
“Wow.”  Firespark plodded over to the water and touched it with his fingers.  “Have you ever seen so much water in one place?”
“It’s amazing,” whispered Lilly.  She flew over a wave and dangled her hand in the water.  She licked it.  “It’s salty!”
“Woah!  So cool!” exclaimed Firespark.  He waded out into the water.  “Look!  I’m floating!” he said as he flipped over onto his back.  Lilly flew over to his stomach and sat on it.  “Heehee!  Now you’re my boat!”  Firespark paddled backwards.  Lilly laughed so hard she almost fell off.
They splashed in the water until it became dark.  After eating, they curled up on the beach beside each other and fell asleep.
*****************
The next day they ate breakfast and set out to fly over the sea.  As they flew, they talked about what they would do when they reached Firespark’s parents.
“What do you even do when you meet the parents who’ve been absent all your life?” asked Firespark.  “I mean, I don’t know what they look like, how will I know who they are, and,” he lowered his voice, “what if I don’t like them?”
“Come on!”  Lilly did a flip.  “Of course you’ll like them!  They’re your parents!  And that’s where you got all of your exciting qualities.  And your scales!  I wonder what colors they are?”
“Well, I’m orange,” mused Firespark.  “Maybe my mom’s red and my dad’s yellow?”
“I’ve never seen a yellow dragon!” laughed Lilly.
“You’ve never seen a dragon besides me,” Firespark reminded her.  They both laughed.
Around noon they both became hungry.  And then they realized what they had neglected to think about on land.
“Where are we going to land?” asked Lilly.  “We never thought about that.”
“Oh dear.  Oh no.  This is bad.  Where are we going to sleep?”  Firespark looked anxious.
Lilly started to say something but Firespark cut her off.  “What are we going to do?  We can't rest!  We’re going to have to find them before dark!”
            “Firespark,” Lilly began.
“We can't eat, we can't sleep, we can't—“
            “FIRESPARK!!!!!!!” Lilly yelled.
            “What?!”
            “Look!”
            Firespark looked.  And he saw—
“Land!”  A small island hovered on the horizon.  Firespark did a loop-de-loop.  “Yahoo!  Land!”
Lilly punched his shoulder.  “I told you!”

They came down on top of the island.  But both were too tired to notice the strange texture of the land.  They laid down beside each other and took a nap.
