When the sun began to sink down to the horizon, Firespark decided to stop for the day.  They had been flying for the entire day, only stopping to eat.
Lilly collapsed onto the ground.  “Whew!  We’ve been flying forever.  Don’t do that tomorrow, okay?  We won't be able to get there if our wings are sore every day.”
Firespark laughed.  “I guess you’re right.  I just want to find where my feet are leading me.  I forgot that you’re smaller so you have to fly faster to keep up with me.  I won't do that again.”
“Okay, good,” answered Lilly.  “Now let’s eat.  I think that we have some chicken nuggets in here somewhere......”
They feasted on chicken nuggets and ketchup while they reclined against an oak tree.  Firespark estimated they must have traveled around twenty leagues, which put them in the North America province.
“Hey Lilly,” Firespark said abruptly.  Lilly grunted.  “Tomorrow, you want to touch down on one of those towns we saw from the air?  Maybe we can find something fun to do.”
“Sure, why not?”  Lilly settled down into a nook between two roots.  “Maybe we can buy something to bring your parents.”
“Sounds good.”  Firespark curled up into a ball and promptly fell asleep.

The next day, they flew over a thriving town.  They decided to land away from it and walk in.  They did so with no difficulties.
The inhabitants of the town were primarily witches, wizards, fairies, and a good mix of other creatures.  Merchants hawked their wares to Firespark and his fairy friend.
“Alchemy ingredients!  Best in the area!  Redbeetles, bluebeetles, yellowbeetles, and orange juice!”
“Swords!  Daggers!  Throwing knives!  Weapons galore!  Get them right here, folks!”
“Fortune telling!  Get your fortune told!  Only five tinnins!!”
Lilly poked Firespark.  “That sounds interesting.  Let’s go!”  He nodded.  They walked over to an old woman who sat in a booth draped in purple, gold, and silver cloth.  Strange objects were scattered over the table.
“Come to get your fortunes told, honey?”  The woman smiled at them and revealed her almost toothless mouth.  “You gots the money?”  Firespark fished out ten tinnins from his pack.  He gave the woman five.  She gestured for him to come nearer.  He did so.
She took his hand and closed her eyes.  When they opened, a blue film covered them.  She gazed into the distance, or was it the future?  Lilly shivered.
“You are on a journey,” the hag intoned.  “Be careful, for the future of an entire nation depends on you.  If you should ever need help, look for the wizard.  He will teach you how to use the trait you need.”
She blinked, her eyes refocused, and she looked at Lilly.  “Next?”
Lilly wasn’t sure she wanted to know her future.  She looked at Firespark nervously.  He smiled and gave her a thumbs up.  She handed the woman her money and sat down on the table.  The fortuneteller took her hand between her first two fingers.  The blue film covered her eyes again.
“Keep him safe.  That is your job.  Do not let him stray from the path.  You shall not return for the Fairy Kingdom, for it is your destiny to stay with him.”
The woman let go of Lilly’s hand.  “Thanks for your business.  Bye bye, dearies!”  She waved.
“Come on, let’s get out of here.”  Firespark turned around and led Lilly out of the town.  They took flight again.
“So what did you think of that?” Lilly asked.  Firespark was silent.  “I don’t know,” he said.  “Sounded strange.  Maybe we should avoid villages from now on.”
“Good plan,” Lilly responded.  They said nothing and continued flying.
They flew until nightfall.  Neither of them felt very hungry until about 7:30 pm, when it got too dark to fly.  Firespark and Lilly landed in a small clearing in the middle of a forest.  They pulled out their sandwiches and began to eat.
“Okay, I’m so tired of not talking!” Lilly exclaimed suddenly.  “Let’s just put this behind us and be normal for a while, alright?  Firespark?”
Firespark shook his head.  “Sorry, I kind of went into a trance there.  Okay.  So where do you think we are?”
“I was just going to ask you that,” Lilly replied.  She gazed into the distance.  “Hey, there’s a house over there!  Looks almost like the forest, though.  Maybe we can ask whoever lives there.”
“That sounds good to me,” Firespark said.  “But let’s finish dinner first.”  Lilly laughed.  “Okay.”
They continued eating their sandwiches and, when they were ready for desert, ate chocolate chip brownies.  Firespark offered Lilly some of his chipotle cookies, but she declined.  With their bellies full, they ventured out of the clearing and toward the strange house.
When Firespark and Lilly reached the house, they stared at it.  It was the most camouflaged house either of them had seen.  It appeared to be a large tree, with a diameter of at least 15 feet.  The tree was covered in vines, leaves, and branches.  Lilly pointed.  “Look, there’s the door.”  They walked over to it.  The door had strange symbols fashioned around it, with one large carving of an elaborate tree on the main part of the door.
Firespark knocked.  The sound reverberated through the tree.  “Hang on, hang on,” a voice said from within.  “Give me one—OUCH!!!  Who put that flaming root there?”
Lilly and Firespark looked at each other.  Sounds of a lock opening came from the door, and suddenly it swung open to reveal an old man.  But this man didn’t look average.  His brown beard hung halfway down his chest.  His green eyes peered at them from under a wizard’s hat.  A cloak made of what looked like ivy hung down his back, but when it swished around his legs, it shimmered like silver.  He wore brown pants, brown boots, and a green shirt, giving him the appearance of a strange tree.  Firespark and Lilly stared.

“Well?  Was there something you wanted?” the man asked.  “I’m Eltobe.”
