BRIAN JACQUES
~Stars: Five
~Author of: the Redwall series (Redwall, Mossflower, Mattimeo, Mairel of Redwall, Salamadastron, Martin the Warrior, The Bellmaker, Outcast of Redwall, Pearls of Lutra, The Long Patrol, Marlfox, The Legend of Luke, Lord Brocktree, Taggerung, Triss, Loamhedge, Rakkety Tam, High Rhulain, Eulalia!, Doomwyte, The Sable Quean, and the Rogue Crew [not in any particular order, there seems to be a very random order to these books, you can read them in any order you please]), several Redwall add-on books (The Great Redwall Feast, A Redwall Winter's Tale, The Redwall Cookbook, The Legend of Redwall Abbey, Redwall [the graphic novel], and Songs From Redwall), the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series (Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, The Angel's Command, and Voyage of Slaves), Urso Brunov, Urso Brunov and the White Emperor, Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales, and The Ribbajack.
~Notes: oH GOODNESS HE'S WRITTEN SO MANY BOOKS
I have read all the Redwall books at least 6 times each and they are totally worth it. They're my go-to books when I want a good classic fantasy. His writing is easy to understand and the plots are simple but not too simple and just interesting enough to keep you engaged without needing a dictionary.
This guy is an awesome author and he's amazing. I've read a few of the add-on Redwall books but none of the other ones. The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman just didn't appeal to me, and most of the add-on books/books written on the side are picture books, so I haven't really read many of them.
Time to review!!! ;D I'm doing the Redwall books cause of what I just said.
Language: none. No language of this world. The world of Redwall is pretty cool. It's written as if people in this world are animals--mice, squirrels, foxes, rats, ferrets, moles, etc. Jacques is very good at inventing colorful insults that are animal themed (wily fox; potbellied, insolent, bottle-nosed pond scum; etc). As a PS, I personally don't add descriptions of cursing that is not of this world, just like, you know, the Lord's name in vain (blasphemy), bywords, and so on.
Romance: haha there's not much. They are animals, after all. There's some thinking about people, maybe a little teasing and blushing, but it's so subtle that you hardly notice any of it and most books don't have any at all. They are very clean books and totally worth reading. I suggest you pick some up because they're amazing. :)
