Chapter 1: Preface

Okay guys, so today I have some of my OWN book.  That's right.  My book.  My first one.
I've been working on it for a really, really long time.  Like a few years.  And the beginning is VERY VERY ROCKY.  Very.  But it gets way better as you go on so just bear with me.  :)
I need input on this.  Really.  More than anything else.  Please.  I beg you.  Please.  Please.  Please.
Also I don't have a title so I will just call it My Book.  ;)
That's something I'll need suggestions from you later.
Well, here goes:
---------
                                                                    CHAPTER 1
    Long ago........
Screams sounded through the castle.  Blood was being shed.  The king and queen woke up abruptly, startled.  The baby in the cradle at the foot of their bed cried.  The king jumped out of bed.
“We are being attacked,” he said as he hurriedly put on his armor.  “I must go and fight!  Go!  Escape!!  Protect our baby!”
“No, Daniel!  You can't!  What about—“
“Rosalyn,” said the king.  He walked over to where the queen stood over the cradle, holding her baby.  He cupped her chin in his hands.  “Go,” he said softly.  She smiled sadly.  He kissed her, and she went willingly to the door.  The queen paused, and turned around.
“Goodbye, Daniel,” she said, and slipped out.
The queen ran down many stairways.  At the end of the fifth staircase, she heard voices.
“Woik, woik, woik, oul we do is woik.  We capture the kink, and Boas says, ‘Go find the queen,’” said a scratchy but strangely young sounding voice.  “Woi don’t we get a break sometoims?”
The queen pressed herself against the wall, muttering a spell.  She immediately turned invisible.
“Ah, shut up,” said a gruff voice.  “You’re gonna get us all in trouble.  You know what happens if you disobey the boss.”
Two creatures came in view.  They were wolves, tall and muscular, walking on their hind legs.  They both wore armor with a strange symbol on the chest plates.  It resembled a crooked flower, choked by thorns.  The two creatures walked in front of her, still talking about the amount of work they were assigned, when the older looking one stopped.
“What?” said the younger wolf.  The other put a claw to his lips and looked around.  He stared at the queen for a while.  He walked closer.  She held her breath.  The wolf narrowed his eyes, then turned away.  “Thought I heard something.”  They walked away, still looking around suspiciously.
The queen waited a full count of 100 before moving.  She ran through hallways, up stairs, down stairs, and through walls.  She finally stopped at a platform between two staircases.  The queen looked around, as if to see if anyone was watching, and whispered some unintelligible syllables.  The outline of a doorway appeared, and the queen pushed on it.  It opened.  She ran in, and shut the door behind her.
She was in a small, but very special room.  This particular room was so full of magic, one could smell it in the air.  The queen set her whimpering baby down on a pedestal in the middle of the room.  She shushed it, and the baby calmed down.  She stood before the pedestal, with her hands outstretched over her baby.  Her eyes glazed over as she worked a powerful magic.  Calling on the magic of the room, and the magic inside of her, she created a ball of pure magic, which she cupped in her hands.  She lowered her hands down to her baby’s heart, and placed the magic there.  The queen then picked up the baby, raised it to the heavens, and exerting herself as far as she had in her life, used the magic surrounding her, her own magic, and her baby’s magic, she whispered words known to not many still in this world.  The baby flashed a bright purple, then yellow, and then—

It was gone.  The queen, exhausted from her exertion, crumpled to the floor in a dead faint.

                                                                   CHAPTER 2
Grace had lived alone for as long as she could remember.  Paransville, or Nowheresville, as the residents called it, had been her home for all thirteen years of her life.  Paransville was in the middle of Montana, and also in the middle of nowhere, hence the nickname.  It was not a big town, with only a drugstore, a barber, a small school, a restaurant, and a hotel.  The locals often joked that the government didn’t even know Paransville existed.
Squashed in between the barber and the hotel was a small building.  It showed signs of once being a grubby pub, but had been greatly improved.  The building had two stories, with a large window on the bottom story placed beside the door.  Two windows with window boxes full of flowers adorned the second story.  Painted across the large window were the words, “Grace’s Mechanics.”  This was Grace’s business.  She had never gone to school, and did not need to.  She made money by repairing machines.  She was quite smart for her age.
Grace lived on the top story of the building and worked on the bottom.  She had a very mechanical mind, and was constantly asking for scrap metal, which she made into all kinds of metalworks.  Her creations ranged from art to even a cell phone she made for herself.  However, her talent was wasted in the small town of Paransville.
On a normal day, Grace looked normal.  She was tall for her age, 13, and slender.  Her hair was wavy and black and her eyes were green.  She love wearing silver jewelry, a green shirt, and jeans.  But every full moon, she changed.  She changed into a wolf.  A strong, snarling, bloodthirsty wolf.  Grace went into a sort of a trance when she was a wolf.  She would forget her friends, her life as a human, everything.  All she thought about was blood.  After the sun rose, she changed into human form and did not remember a bit of what she was just thinking.  To avoid killing anyone in Paransville, she had a sturdy shack built behind her shop.  She had learned from experience that it was a very bad idea to be around innocent bystanders whenever she was in wolf form.  Every month on the full moon, she went in and did not appear until morning.
She knew she was a werewolf.  She had researched her condition.  The whole town knew as well.  But no one talked about it.  She was a werewolf, and that was that.  She lived a normal life, except for once a month.

That is, Grace lived a normal life until one day she met people who would change her life.  It all started on a windy day in October.

THIS is the part I'm really, really concerned about.  It's so rocky and awkward, but I can't think of any other way to put it.

Chapter 3: The Strangers

Chapter 3, coming through.  Wishing more followers for me.
*sigh*
You guys are STUBBORN.

                                                                     CHAPTER 3
It had been a normal day.  Grace had gotten up, taken a shower, eaten breakfast, and then gone down to work in her workshop.  Bob, the barber, came to have a rouge buzzer fixed. “It keeps on turning on and disturbing Scissors,” he said.  Scissors was his tabby cat.  Grace opened up the buzzer, and inspected it.  Surprisingly, it took her several hours to find and fix the problem.  Just as she was screwing the cover back on, the bell on her door jingled.  She glanced up.  Three strangers were standing in her shop.  A young man, probably in his thirties, was standing at the counter.  The young woman beside him looked to be his wife, and the boy—who was rather cute—might have been thirteen.  The man and boy looked like they had greenish-blond hair.  Grace started.  She looked again.  Their hair was only blond.  She decided it must have been the light.
“Hi!” said the man. “I’m Robert, and my wife’s name is Rosie.  This is our son, Russell.”  Grace mentally placed all of the first letters of their names together to make RRR.  This family obviously likes alliteration, she thought.  Then the man named Robert began to speak again, breaking her train of thought. “We were traveling through, and we thought we’d stay here.  Is there a hotel here somewhere?” he asked.
“The nearest one is the Forde Inn.  Right down the street.  Hi.  I’m Grace, by the way.” Grace said.  The boy named Russell snickered.  “What?” she asked.  “Sorry,” Russell said, “but it’s just that now I know three girls named Grace.”  Grace snorted.  She knew Grace was a common name, but it was hers and she liked it.  There was no reason for this boy to point out it was common, but then again, she did ask.

“Thanks,” the man said.  “You’re welcome,” said Grace.  The family left.  She looked back down at the buzzer, but her mind was elsewhere.  She felt.......drawn to this family, as if something greater than her was working.  She shook her head to clear her thoughts.  Resolving to check the family out later, Grace looked down at the buzzer and continued to screw on the cover.

                                                                 CHAPTER 4
Around 9:00, Grace biked over to the Forde Inn.  It was a nice inn, with only two stories.  But, when one lives in a place with little visitors, a large inn is not needed.  She felt quite self conscious, visiting strangers.  In fact, she didn’t even know what she was doing, or why she was doing it.  What am I thinking? she thought to herself.  I have no idea who these people are.  I’ve got to go see them......no!  Who are they?  I don’t understand what’s happening.  Something’s strange about them......
By the time Grace had walked up to the front desk, asked where the strangers were staying, and walked up the stairs on the way to their room, her mind was completely out of control.  Lost in thought, she didn’t notice the boy named Russell walking toward her until they bumped into each other.  “Ouch,” said Russell.  “Ouch,” said Grace.  She backed up a few steps, her eyes on Russell the whole time.  Russell was looking at her very strangely.  He looked startled, but she supposed that was normal.  But he also looked......scared!  Like she was a monster!  Grace backed up a few more steps, and then turned around. She ran all the way to her shop, up the stairs and into her room. She flopped onto her bed.
Grace replayed Russell’s look over and over in her mind.  She couldn’t help thinking Russell had known she was a werewolf.  She decided she would not visit the strangers.
                                                              *************
Meanwhile, at the Forde Inn, Russell was talking to his parents.  “Mom, she’s a werewolf.  I am absolutely sure.”
“Well, I certainly didn’t notice,” said Rob.  “But I know she is,” said Russell.  “Just let me ask her.”
“Okay,” said Rosie.  “But if she isn’t, it’s up to you to get yourself out of this pickle.”
“Thanks Mom!”  Russell gave his mom a squeeze and dashed downstairs.  He ran straight to Grace’s shop.  When he arrived, he threw open the door.  The bell jingled loudly.
Grace, who was still lying on her bed, tromped downstairs.  She had just gotten to her desk when she noticed Russell, standing at the door.  She sat, confused.
“Hi,” she said weakly.  “Hey,” said Russell.
“Why.....what......do you need something?” said Grace.  She felt like she should ask Russell an important question, yet didn’t know what it was.
“No, I....” Russell realized he was in a pickle.  “I am going to ask you a question that will sound really weird,” he said.  Grace said nothing.     “AREYOUAWEREWOLF?!” he blurted.  Grace blushed crimson.  “Why do you care?” she asked.
“You won’t understand if I tell you.”  said Russell.  “Plus, I asked you first.  So, are you?”

Grace sighed.  “Yes, I am a werewolf, as far as I can tell.  Now can you leave me alone?”
